-25 kg (55 lb): How Runtastic User Barbara Lost Weight

In today’s blog post, Barbara Wirl shares with us her incredible success story. Learn how the Austrian was able to shed 25 kg (55 lb) with Runtastic.
“It all started when I was booking our vacation. But, to be honest, everything really began with the birth of my son…
I had always struggled with my weight because I simply loved to eat good food. Up until the birth of my son almost five years ago, I got by pretty well with a lot of sport and skipping meals from time to time. That is if one overlooks the numerous weight fluctuations and the infamous yo-yo effect. But when my son was born, I couldn’t get back into my routine. Before I knew it, I had packed on 25 kg (55 lb) of excess weight on my hips and thighs. Plus, skipping meals was no longer an option.
At the time, I weighed 90 kg (200 lb). I ended up trying what felt like a hundred different diets. And truth be told: They didn’t really help much in the long run.
Then, my significant other and I booked our first vacation without our child at the beginning of November last year. At a dream hotel in the Maldives, no less. I really love to go diving, but the thought of squeezing my body into a wetsuit horrified me. So I finally got my butt in gear and started running again. With Runtastic, of course. At first, only once or twice a week, but pretty soon I was consistently running three times a week. Then my friend Vero told me about Runtastic Results. I was sceptical at first. Why? Because I lacked self-confidence and thought, “There’s no way I can do that.” But then when I saw how quickly my friend made big strength and endurance gains, I knew I had to try it.
The first twelve weeks were really hard for me. But I stuck with it and never gave up. Today, I’d have to say that you get addicted to bodyweight training pretty fast. Even when I was sick once, I really had to fight hard not to start pumping out burpees too soon again.
I especially remember one workout in Week 20. At the time I was in the Maldives. I thought I’d never survive this workout… 100 burpees in a row, 100 punches, 100 squats and 100 lateral jumps. And lo and behold, it’s amazing what you can do if you believe in yourself.
Today I feel completely comfortable in a bikini and a wetsuit. But more importantly, I feel strong! And I know I can do anything if I put my mind to it. Plus that the excess weight is gone is an added bonus.
When it is really warm like this, I like to combine my running and Runtastic Results training. I warm up with a run through the park, do my workout there and then finish off with another lap around the park. My tip for all of you out there is to take your workouts outdoors and get your friends to join you. It’s a lot more fun that way!”
Yours, Barbara
