The 9 Most Amazing Running Events of 2017 – Are You Ready?

This year, once again, there is an impressive list of running events worldwide that are anything but boring. Running in the sun at midnight, through a landscape of temples or on a mountain, like Mount Großglockner – our suggestions include something for everyone. They are guaranteed to make you hungry for a run.

2017 Is Going to Be YOUR Best Running Year

1. Rock’n’Roll Marathon Series: March to December 2017, worldwide
This series is like nothing you’ve ever seen before: The Rock’n’Roll Marathons really make running fun. More and more people are starting to participate in one of these races in the USA, Canada and Europe, which are more like a music festival than a marathon. Macklemore, Pitbull and Flo Rida have performed here in the past and really fired up the crowd. By the way, you can choose between 5, 10, 21 and 42 km.

2. Boston Marathon: April 17, 2017, Boston/USA
The Boston Marathon is the oldest annual city marathon in the world. This year it will be held for the 121st time. Share your passion with more than 20,000 other motivated participants and run through the lively streets of Boston.

3. Midnight Sun Marathon: June 17, 2017, Tromsø/Norway
Running in sunlight at midnight? The Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø makes this unique experience possible. The northernmost race in the world offers a variety of distances, with something for every fitness level.

4. Großglockner Mountain Run: July 16, 2017, Heiligenblut/Austria
The 13 km route of the Großglockner Mountain Run leads you through Austrian cultural landscapes and alpine glacier regions. Along the way, you will conquer nearly 1500 meters of elevation gain. The breathtaking natural surroundings leave little room for boredom and you are guaranteed to break a sweat.

5. Conti 24h Thunder Run: July 22-23, 2017, Norwich/UK
The 24h Thunder Run will be held for the 9th time already in Cotton Park in Norwich. Basically, the name says it all: You run 24 hours against the clock, either alone, with a partner or in a team. This run is a physical and mental challenge, but mainly it is an awesome experience that you shouldn’t miss out on.

6. Australian Outback Marathon: July 29, 2017, Ayers Rock Resort/Australia
This is probably the only marathon in the world where kangaroos cross your path! 😉 The “Red Earth” route leads running enthusiasts over sand and stone through Australia’s breathtaking Outback – past Ayers Rock and the Olgas. An adventure that no participant is likely to forget.

7. Disneyland Half Marathon: September 3, 2017, California/USA
Definitely the merriest race in the world: Join Mickey Mouse and his dog Pluto for a 21 km race through Disneyland and the streets of Anaheim. A magical experience!

8. Antarctic Ice Marathon: November 24, 2017, Union Glacier/Antarctica
Good running gear and lots of layers are a must at the Ice Marathon in the Antarctic, the southernmost race in the world. The average temperature there in November is -15°C. During the marathon, you battle against the elements and may meet the occasional penguin or two. Something only for pros, but it is definitely a thrilling experience. Unfortunately, you have to dig deep into your pockets if you want to take part in this frosty, but unique experience: The entry fee is more than € 15,000.

9. Bagan Temple Marathon: November 25, 2017, Bagan/Myanmar
Run amidst the breathtaking scenery of numerous temples through Bagan, the historic capital of the Pagan Kingdom in Myanmar. You can choose between a marathon, a half marathon and a 10 km race. The hardest thing about the race is to resist the temptation to stop every couple of meters and admire the temples and the villages.
