The world’s biggest app and mobile event – and we are there.

Like every year, we are here in Barcelona once again to get a closer look at the latest trends in app development and mobile technologies. The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the largest congress in the world on mobile developments in software and technology.

Although the Mobile World Congress doesn’t actually start until Monday, we have already been busy since Sunday: Among other things, we already got the chance to take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge as part of the “Samsung Unpacked” event. Both smartphones provide some new features that are also important for an active lifestyle: They are waterproof so you don’t have to worry about tracking your favorite route with the Runtastic app in bad weather. Plus, the S7 Edge has a bigger battery and comes with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

A hot topic once again this year is the latest wearables with Google Wear, which we have supported right from the beginning with our Android Runtastic app. The recent market launch of versions with GPS opens up new options for tracking your activities without a smartphone. With these new possibilities, we can help you to lead a healthy and active lifestyle: For instance, there is the Motorola 360 Sport Watch, which was specifically designed with this in mind.

Virtual Reality (VR) – this technology is growing in popularity and in the future will also be used in the health and fitness space. Already sensing the trend, we presented our 7-minute workout based on Oculus VR at last year’s MWC. Thus, we are excited to see where the virtual journey takes us and how hardware products will continue to develop in this new environment.

More than just hardware
While we will rub shoulders with all the big names in hardware at the Mobile World Congress, there are also lots of important companies involved in app development. We will chat with Microsoft, Facebook and Google about the best ways to help you live an even healthier and more active lifestyle.

In addition, Stefanie Peterson, Runtastic VP of Marketing & Strategic Communications, will also be giving several talks at the conference on current issues in the health and fitness space. We will also keep you up-to-date on this.
