Super Power Protein Smoothie

Let’s face it, we are all really busy, always on-the-go and it can really be difficult to get all of the nutrients that our body craves on a regular basis. Smoothies are a really great way to jam pack a lot of nutrients into a tasty and convenient beverage that you can take with you on your way to work, make quickly after a hard workout or even make for the kids when they are too energetic to sit down for a meal.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it sets you up for the days endeavors and it really makes a difference in your overall mental focus and energy level. This smoothie is really easy because you can take it with you in the car on your way to work, and not feel like you have to wake up extra early to concoct a healthy breakfast. For those of you that do not know, your body needs around 20-30g of protein after you workout in order to repair and refuel those hard working muscles. This smoothie is really rich in protein and can be an excellent choice for your post workout meal to ensure you replenish adequately and sufficiently. This smoothie tastes really good, so if you are trying to get the kids to receive more nutrients and get in the calories quickly, this smoothie is also an amazing, and tastes great so they will think they are having a treat.

Super Power Protein Smoothie
– 1 c. vanilla unsweetened almond milk (you can also use low-fat/non-fat milk, coconut milk or water)
– 1 container of non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt
– 1 c. frozen mixed berries
– ½ c. frozen spinach
– 1 tbsp Chia seeds
– 1 banana
– Mix all ingredients in a blender until all ingredients are combined to desired consistency
You may think, based on the ingredients that this smoothie is going to taste like a jumbled mess. However, this smoothie is actually really tasty and really beneficial for your body. The Greek yogurt is your source or protein and it is also lower in carbs and sodium than other yogurt; plus it is thicker so it gives your smoothie a much thicker texture. The frozen berries and spinach go hand in hand and because they are frozen you do not need ice for this smoothie recipe. Berries are rich in antioxidants & spinach is full of vitamins, minerals and fiber. I promise that the berries mask the flavor of the spinach and you will not be able to tell it is in there at all. Chia seeds are rich in heart healthy Omega-3’s, great for joint mobility and flexibility also benefits your hair and nails. Bananas are full of potassium and also contribute to the thick consistency of the smoothie. As you can see, there is no question that this smoothie is rich in amazing ingredients that are going to powerfully fuel your body naturally and efficiently.
