Tips For Success in 2014

By Runtastic CEO, Florian Gschwandtner
I’m very proud of the Runtastic Community’s accomplishments in 2013. And, I know we’ve all got even bolder ambitions for 2014. In order to help you start off the new year on the right track, I’ve compiled a few personal tips for success in 2014!
Have a goal: Many people start a new year full of determination, but fall back into old habits after just a few weeks. Set yourself a health and fitness goal, or two, for 2014 to help you stay focused and motivated – even on those days when you’d really rather not lace up your running shoes. A goal can be anything from a new body weight to finishing a race during the spring or summer. You know you best and your goal should be personal and enjoyable to work towards!
Write it down: Just like keeping a food journal, it can be helpful to write down your workout plans for a week and then note whether you completed your activities, or not. There is something very powerful about putting our plans and efforts on “paper.” And speaking of paper, it is very important to note that you should find a way to “journal” and monitor your efforts in a way that best suits your personality and lifestyle. While some might love taking a pen to paper, your method of keeping yourself in check might include a calendar on your computer, a Google Doc or using training reminders and tracking activities within your favorite Runtastic apps.
Start small: So, perhaps you’ve already got a goal and a plan, but it’s also important to start small! When you “bite off more than you can chew” and kick your workout plan into overdrive, it is unlikely that your mental and physical stamina will keep pace. If you’re a beginner, start with two or three light activities per week. If you’re a bit more advanced, add to your program slowly and steadily to achieve improved results, all the while avoiding burnout.
Let Runtastic help: Not to toot our own horn, but we’ve been known to help people transform their health and fitness habits and get their lifestyle on track (check out some of our ‘Runtastic Success Stories’ in the coming weeks). Whether it’s apps to help you track your activities and review progress or hardware to monitor additional stats, we’ve got you covered. What’s more, in this new year we’re introducing even more cool gear and accessories to help keep you safe and looking great while you’re on the go!
Have fun: Last but certainly not least, make sure to find activities that you enjoy and are well suited to your natural preferences. If you already know the activities that keep you going, then get to it! And find a cool training partner or group while you’re at it for extra motivation! If you’re not sure what your ideal training habits might look like, consider a Runtastic GOLD Membership on Runtastic.com to uncover when you’re most active and effective. A supportive community of 20+ million fellow fitness enthusiasts can’t hurt the fun quotient either!
We look forward to your successes in 2014 and we’re eager to support your efforts in a variety of ways! Thank you, as always, for your ongoing input, feedback and loyalty – we know we wouldn’t be where we are today without your support and tremendous dedication. And finally, in case you’re wondering, I’ve recently set my own personal goal for 2014! This year, I’ll take on the hardest training ever and be in the best shape of my life by June 1, 2014. Let’s take on new challenges and get started together!
Yours,
Florian
