-27 kg with the Runtastic Weight Loss Running Plan – Luanda’s Story

Luanda Success Story

I love reading all of the success stories on the Runtastic blog and they really encouraged me to share mine. My name is Luanda. I’m a 31-year-old UX designer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I’ve had issues with gaining weight for the past 5 years and last year I peaked at 110 kg (243 lb) for the second time. So, I decided it was time to act “for real” this time.

I used to practice running in the past, but I wasn’t having much luck with it the past couple of years due to being overweight. Being overweight led to knee problems, which made it hard to walk throughout the day. I used adidas Micoach until the service was discontinued. I was given a Premium account, so I decided to give the Runtastic app a try since the interface is so simple and easy to use. That’s where I discovered the training plan area of the app. I chose the one that was called “Lose weight” and went for it.

I started the “Lose weight” training plan on February 20, 2017, along with many other changes in my life: new food habits, actually going to the gym, cycling and voilà… I’ve lost 27 kg (60 lb) so far. Runtastic really helped me get back on track. THANK YOU!

Now, I’ve become a frequent gym member, hired a coach and have kick-started new eating habits including whole, unprocessed foods and tons of fresh produce while eliminating dairy and grains. Additionally, I checked in with my doctors to make sure I was on the right track.

It’s also worth mentioning that I did a lot of work on my mind. I’ve let go of all the bad things that were keeping me from focusing on what matters. I released the guilty old feelings, bad relationships and bad habits.

Current nutrition habits

I vowed to stick to my new eating habits for at least one month and I did it! It was my own choice to keep all kinds of sugars out of my diet (except sugar that comes naturally from fruits and vegetables) and dairy products. I’ve learned a lot about meal prep, vegetarian and vegan menu options and I am hoping to one day fully transition to a vegan lifestyle.

Luanda’s 6-day training schedule

  • Mon: running + workouts
  • Tue: workouts + cycling
  • Wed: workouts + running
  • Thu: cycling + workouts
  • Fri: running + workouts
  • Sat: day off
  • Sun: running (longer distance)

Tips for those who want to lose weight

You’ve got to believe in yourself and cannot expect immediate results. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t notice anything happening the next day or week. Something did happen. It’s always happening and it’s always going to be a work in progress. You have to be patient.

Weight status and current goal

I started at 110 kg (243 lb). Now, I am currently 83 kg (183 lb) and I want to reach 75 kg (165 lb). My current goal isn’t really about losing weight, though. I want to focus on getting stronger and faster. The weight loss goal will eventually happen.

Being healthy feels so good

I feel awesome! I’m still surprised every time I see myself in the mirror, or every time I try on old clothes and they don’t fit anymore. Clothes shopping isn’t a nightmare anymore and now I have more energy left for other areas of my life.

I just started an Instagram account (@happystamina) to try to tell my story and maybe help someone out there to do the same.

Have you also lost weight? We’d love to hear about it! Send your story and some before & after photos to mysuccess@runtastic.com.
