Engineering Manager (Architecture & Backend)

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, our teams are currently working from home, and we are onboarding new hires remotely.

With hundreds of millions of users, a growing number of microservices and our constantly evolving adidas Running and adidas Training apps, we face the challenge of building top-class applications every day.

As one of our Engineering Managers within Platform Engineering, you’ll lead two teams of talented Architects and Backend Engineers and will establish a sustainable engineering environment.

You’ll contribute by:

  • Leading, coaching and inspiring up to 10 Software Architects and Backend Engineers
  • Encouraging a learning and knowledge-sharing environment to help your team members grow individually while also considering the company’s needs
  • Teaching your team members how to explain technically complex situations to non-technical experts
  • Working closely with other Engineering Managers and our VP of Platform Engineering to identify challenges to be solved
  • Playing a key role in defining our tech strategy as well as managing initiatives and projects within the scope of our system architecture
  • Ensuring engineering best practices are followed and improved over time
  • Working with colleagues to identify opportunities or needs for alignment
  • Managing salaries and the learning & development budget of your team members as well as attracting and hiring new talents for your teams

What makes you the right match:

  • 5+ years of experience with software development and architecture of large software systems (with at least 30 developers)
  • Profound knowledge of microservice architecture
  • 2+ years of experience leading and/or mentoring experts and teams
  • Empathetic, people-centred mindset and a passion for leadership
  • Proactive attitude to improve processes as well as drive collaboration and team maturity
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and creating an understanding of technical needs and investments
  • Excellent English skills

And here’s the fine print: Our salary range starts at EUR 65,000 gross per year. Your actual offer depends on your skill set and experience.
