New Recipe Video App Capitalizes on Numerous Trends & Makes Healthy Cooking FunVienna | Published on: 06.04.2017
Today Runtastic – a leader in the digital health and fitness space that offers a comprehensive portfolio of apps, products and services for tracking and managing health and fitness data – announced the release of the Runtasty app on iOS and Android. The app features healthy, easy-to-create recipes – presented via colorful, playful step-by-step videos – along with helpful “how to” videos and numerous tagging capabilities to help you identify meals and snacks that fit into your meal plan and note favorites for your next kitchen session.
“Food is sexy again and solid nutrition is a critical part of any fitness or weight loss routine,” said Florian Gschwandtner, CEO and Co-Founder of Runtastic. “That’s where Runtasty comes in. We’re thrilled to offer our existing users and new audiences a fun, free app to inspire them to get creative in the kitchen and bring delicious, healthy recipes into their homes and onto their tables.”
Developed by Experts, Tested on Social Media
In true start-up style, Runtasty is a prime example of innovation and iteration at Runtastic. In 2016, the Runtasty concept was born during a DONI project – the brainchild of members of the in-house Content Marketing team. DONI, for those who are not familiar, stands for Day Of New Ideas and is the quarterly, two-day innovation session where diverse teams of Runtastics come together to work on new ideas, projects and processes that do not fit into their daily work (yet). In the weeks and months that followed the inception of Runtasty, “pilot” videos were created by the Media team and then tested across social media channels and on the Runtastic Blog. They were an instant hit.
To date, Runtasty videos already boast over 11 million views online, with the most popular recipes including: Avocado Chicken Wrap, Creamy Smoked Salmon Guacamole, Hummus-Crusted Chicken with Veggies and the signature Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie. The app will be launched including 43 healthy recipes videos, 7 instructional “how to” videos and 24 categories for easy organization and searching. New videos will be added monthly, to ensure that users are continuously pushed to try new recipes and seasonal ingredients.
“Runtasty has been a passion project for the Runtastic team right from the start – it’s incredible to see talented, motivated individuals go the extra mile for a project that truly fills them with pride,” beamed Gschwandtner. “As for the app – as soon as we recognized the popularity of the videos on social media, the only question was, ‘How quickly can we get this on the roadmap?!’ I’m in awe of the progress our team made in recent months and I am also excited to take this first step into the field of food, drink and nutrition.”
The app for iOS and Android is available for free download in the App Store and Google Play or at https://www.runtastic.com/apps/runtasty/lite. The app is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
Founded in 2009, Runtastic has rapidly grown into an innovative portfolio of apps, products and services that track and manage health and fitness data to motivate individuals to get in shape, stay healthy and improve overall fitness. In August 2015, the company was acquired by adidas.
With more than 205 million downloads and 105 million registered users on Runtastic.com, Runtastic’s mobile applications sync directly with proprietary hardware to track distance, speed, pace, duration, heart rate, calorie consumption and route traveled (via maps) when running, biking or engaging in other exercise activities. The results can then be viewed directly within the app, via Runtastic GPS devices or on Runtastic.com, where users can view their online training log, get detailed data analysis and compare with others. Whether you are a novice or an athlete, Runtastic makes exercise easy and fun.
