Runtastic Presents adidas X Parley Run for the Oceans
New Campaign Leverages the Power of Sport to Raise Awareness for the Beauty and Fragility of the OceansNew York, New York and Vienna, Austria | Published on: 22.04.2017
Today Runtastic – a leader in the digital health and fitness space that offers a comprehensive portfolio of apps, products and services for tracking and managing health and fitness data – announced the launch of a new environmental campaign, Run for the Oceans, in collaboration with adidas and Parley for the Oceans. At present, the threats to the marine ecosystem are many and growing. Among the greatest is marine plastic pollution, which presently endangers nature, the animal kingdom and the quality of life for all humans. Parley, a collaboration network and organization dedicated to raising awareness for the beauty and fragility of the oceans, unites various industries in projects that can end the destruction. Building on the momentum of the adidas x Parley partnership, Run for the Oceans aims to raise awareness around the state of the oceans by inviting individuals around the world to take action and run with Runtastic and show their support, one mile at a time.
To expand on the celebration around World Oceans Day, June 8, and the excitement of the upcoming United Nations Ocean conference in New York City, between June 5 and June 11, runners around the world can join the movement by participating in a digital run supported by Runtastic. Interested parties can register via Runtastic on adidas.com/runfortheoceans beginning immediately; contribute mileage between June 5 and June 11; and keep an eye on the total distance covered by the international community of runners joining forces for the cause throughout the week.
The offline Run for the Oceans event will take place on June 8, World Oceans Day 2017 in New York City. The event will see runners, ocean ambassadors, influencers and special guests take to the streets of NYC for a very special nighttime event intended to raise awareness and spark discourse in an effort to create solutions and improve the health of the oceans.
"We’re so proud of this campaign and absolutely thrilled to be part of a movement to create change through sport," said Florian Gschwandtner, Runtastic CEO and Co-Founder. “Our company has always known and witnessed the power of running in transforming lives. With Run for the Oceans, we’re taking it one step further. It goes beyond personal health – it’s about springing into action for a cause that is greater than ourselves. It’s about doing what we can to make sure the world, our oceans and our futures are healthy.”
Run for the Oceans is the latest collaboration between Parley for the Oceans and adidas, who are amongst many powerful stakeholders working together to transform marine plastic pollution into high-performance sportswear. The partnership aims to set new industry standards and drive eco-innovation towards long-term solutions through the Parley AIR Strategy: Avoid, Intercept, Redesign. The adidas Parley UltraBOOST, UltraBOOST X and UltraBOOST Uncaged in an all fresh blue colourway inspired by the shades of the oceans, will be available for purchase on May 10, 2017. “The new additions to the adidas x Parley collection are another step in our journey to creating one million pairs of UltraBOOST from up-cycled marine plastic,” said Mathias Amm, adidas Running Product Category Director. “As a global brand, we have a responsibility to help change the world for the better. These designs reflect our support for a great cause, while delivering the exceptional performance we are renowned for - a powerful combination, which we hope will excite and inspire our global community as much as it does us.”
