Description

14.25 km (One Way) Mostly flat except at transitions on the bike-trail along the river. This course follows slow-moving rivers on built-up riverbanks from Jangyu to Gimhae. It usually takes about 1 hour at an easy pace. It is very beautiful, with big stretches of flat rice fields and good views of mountains, farmland and a variety of waterbirds on the river. The city of Gimhae has improved many of the paths along the river for walking, running and biking. I've mapped a route that minimizes car traffic. Near Jangyu, there is a section which locals, farmers and fishermen can drive on; and they usually drive too fast, so be careful along there. On the other side of an underpass there is a sports park being developed near the Lotte Outlet shopping center. Even now, there are usually some baseball players playing on the fields, and they all drive cars to get there. Once this sports park is finished, there will be an increase in traffic there. Near Gimhae, there are usually some people using the trail for walking, running and biking. Most of the time it's not crowded. It is surprising to find this gem of a route because Korea seems mostly composed of clusters of tall buildings surrounded by steep mountains. It takes about 5 minutes by bike to leave the city and experience a completely different Korean perspective.
