Adidas Running Users Can Use Their Apple Watch to Get Rewards

adidas Running athletes can use any Apple Watch app to track their activities.

Summary

adidas Runtastic has launched a new integration with Apple Health, allowing tens of millions of athletes to earn points in the adidas membership program simply by exercising with their Apple Watch.

Details

On December 14, adidas Runtastic launched a new feature in the adidas Running mobile app that allows athletes to import sports activities directly from the Apple Health mobile service.

adidas Running athletes can use any Apple Watch app to track their activities.

This makes the adidas Running app one of the first athletic mobile apps to import from (rather than export to) Apple Health. It now enables tens of millions of athletes to automatically earn points in Creators Club, the global adidas membership program, by exercising.

Scott Dunlap, CEO and General Manager of adidas Runtastic said: “Creators Club is the only loyalty program in the world that allows athletes to ‘level up’ by either exercising or purchasing.”

“We are thrilled to extend this capability to all Creators Club members who are Apple Watch consumers in Creators Club countries, so they can get extra rewards for staying active, no matter if they are walking, running, cycling or more.”

Through the adidas Creators Club membership program (adiClub in Japan), users collect points that unlock every level of adidas goodies.

Athletes can earn points per tracked kilometer in adidas Running or from completed workouts in adidas Training. Some benefits include Hype Access, early access to product launches, special events and adidas Runtastic Premium membership.

Apple Health has been one of the fastest-growing digital health services globally, driven mainly by the popularity of the Apple Watch. This device dominates the smartwatch industry, with 7.6 million devices shipped in the first quarter of 2020 and a 54% market share, according to Strategy Analytics.

Apple Health is the app and data service that securely collects health information from the Apple Watch, as well as other digital fitness devices such as digital scales, sleep monitors, and step trackers.

adidas Runtastic believes athletes deserve the best app experience possible, with more ways of tracking their activity than before.

Now whether you are cycling with Peloton or using the new Apple Fitness+ service, your activities can be seamlessly imported and applied to Creators Club. You can join millions of others in our motivational challenges such as Run Wild or Run For The Oceans, or compete in one of our new virtual races.

Gunther Zajic, Product Manager for the Running adidas app said: “While being able to track their activities with any Apple Watch app, through features in adidas Running like Challenges, Virtual Races, Statistics, Goals, and many more, the users can diversify and customize their fitness journey.

“Not only that, they can also benefit from all these valuable tools to reach their goals, connect with others, and live a healthy life.”

This free feature is easy to use. Users have to enable the import through the adidas Running app and give permission to Apple Health through their settings. As long as a user’s activity gets saved to Apple Health, they can import it to adidas Running. Only new activities finished after you enable the feature can be imported.

Focus on Partnerships

This year, adidas Runtastic has a strategic focus on partnerships and now has its own Partner API that partners can integrate. As a result, adidas Runtastic has created the partnerships team that coordinates the partnerships and integration within our products

Now, several players in the fitness tech industry can sync their activity data with adidas Running e.g. Zwift, Polar, Suunto and Garmin to name a few. Our athletes can also sync their adidas Running activity data into other apps e.g. Keller Sports and Running Heroes.
